Loft Conversions

Has your growing family filled every inch of space in your current house? Are you working more from home and desperately need a dedicated office space? Now more than ever, homeowners recognise the importance of having as much internal and external space as possible. Unlike property extensions, loft conversions create a new room without any sacrifice in the garden. Rather than building out into land you may already use, our builders convert a dark, musty space typically used for storing assorted junk.

BOC Construction Services Limited converts lofts in Surrey, London, and the South East areas.

Our team of builders shares more than 40 years of experience in the construction trade. As such, we excel at all types of loft conversions:

  • Roof Light – All building work takes place within the existing roofing structure. We fit windows into the original roof slope to create a space filled with natural light
  • Dormer – Our team builds a box-shaped extension that rises vertically out of your roof. The result creates ample space and headroom, and all with a flat ceiling
  • Mansard – By extending the roof backward, our builders create a new flat roof with a raised rear wall. The new wall has a distinctive inward slope of 72 degrees
  • Hip-to-Gable – This process turns a hipped roof into a gable. Having removed a hipped side and raised the outer wall, the restructured roof has a right angle

To discuss any of the above options in more detail, please call us on 01372 626 216. BOC Construction Services Limited happily visits Surrey, London, and South East properties for initial consultations and loft inspections.

Is My Loft Suitable for Conversion?

Before you start planning your new room, you must find out whether your loft is suitable for conversion. As a general guide, you can look at neighbouring houses to see if they have loft conversions. If they share the same architectural style, it’s highly likely your loft is suitable.

To confirm your loft’s suitability, however, you must measure its head height. The minimum height for a conversion is 2.2m. We take this measurement from the floor to the tallest point of the roof. If you have a clearance of 2.2m or above, our builders have enough existing space to work with.

If your loft’s head height is less than 2.2m, you may still convert. However, your project will involve one of two solutions: lowering the ceilings in the rooms below the loft or raising the height of the roof. Of course, this will require a larger budget and a longer timescale.

In addition to height, we also consider access and obstacles. For the former, this includes placement for the staircase leading up to the new room. The latter focuses on features like chimneys and water tanks.

Having completed countless loft conversions in the areas we cover, we can confirm where your project stands after inspecting your loft and wider property.
